Caillou was written and illustrated as a 9-month-old child. As he grew older, the animators decided to draw him without hair. The reason? Putting hair on it would make Caillou unrecognizable. And they didn’t want to confuse the kids.
“Caillou’s baldness might make him different, but we hope this helps kids understand that being different is okay,” the creators explain on their website.
Caillou’s baldness seems to be overlooked by children. So if his target audience doesn’t care if he’s bald or not, the creators don’t care much about Caillou’s appearance either.
