“The Force of Nature” is a series of sculptures by Italian artist Lorenzo Quinn depicting Mother Nature. like a woman launching the planet as if it were a hammer throw. The sculptures are very symbolic, and are intended to remind human beings that they live “with a false sense of security” from the force of nature, and that it could arouse its fury at any moment.
Lorenzo Quinn was inspired to create the series after witnessing the destruction caused by hurricanes in Thailand and the southern US. Made of bronzes, stainless steel and aluminum, the sculptures have been installed in many places around the world, from England and the United States, to Monaco and Singapore. Each of the sculptures is slightly different from the others. Quinn claims that the sculptures of him are reminiscent of early statues made as peace offerings to the gods in hopes of appeasing their wrath.
