If you’re looking to support your skin and soften the appearance of frown lines without resorting to botox or other treatments, then you’ve come to the right place. As a skincare expert and facialist, I’ve seen firsthand how some simple techniques can make a real difference to the appearance of forehead wrinkles. In this article, we’ll explore the muscles in the forehead that cause frown lines, and I’ll share with you some massage moves and other tips and tricks that are easy to incorporate into your skincare routine.

Understanding Forehead Frown Lines
Before we get started, it’s helpful to understand the underlying cause of forehead frown lines. The forehead is home to a group of muscles that are responsible for making us frown, squint, and concentrate. These muscles are located in the glabella area of the forehead, just above the bridge of the nose, and are also responsible for the 11’s lines that many people develop between their eyebrows. While not everyone will genetically develop 11’s lines, these wrinkles are often caused by our expressions, and can be exacerbated by squinting, focusing on a computer screen, or any activity that pulls the brows in.

Massage Moves to Soften Frown Lines
One of the best ways to support your skin and soften the appearance of frown lines is through facial massage. Here are some massage moves that you can do at home:
- Quick Stepping – Starting just under the brow, use your pointing fingers to pull up, and then speed up the motion to increase blood flow to the area.
- Two-Finger Squishing – Use two fingers to create some nice circles, supporting your skin with one hand to be more targeted.
- Rainbow Moves – Create a rainbow shape over your forehead, starting above the brow and moving outward. This move will ease off the muscles and promote relaxation.
These massage moves are quick and easy, and you can do them as often as you like. The key is to be consistent and incorporate them into your daily skincare routine.

Other Tips and Tricks to Support Your Skin
In addition to facial massage, there are other tips and tricks that you can incorporate into your skincare routine to support your skin and soften the appearance of frown lines:
- Use Sunscreen – Sun exposure is a leading cause of premature aging and can lead to the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
- Stay Hydrated – Drinking plenty of water can help keep your skin hydrated and plump, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Use Antioxidant-Rich Products – Antioxidants can help protect your skin from environmental stressors that can lead to premature aging. Look for products that contain ingredients like Vitamin C, green tea, and CoQ10.
- Get Enough Sleep – Lack of sleep can cause stress and inflammation, leading to the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night to keep your skin looking its best.
- Practice Relaxation Techniques – Stress can cause muscle tension, leading to the development of frown lines. Practicing relaxation techniques like deep breathing, yoga, or meditation can help reduce stress and promote relaxation in the muscles of the forehead.
Incorporating these tips and tricks into your skincare routine can help support your skin and soften the appearance of frown lines. Remember, consistency is key, so be sure to make these practices a part of your daily routine.

I’ve been doing face yoga and facerobics for 8 weeks and my frown line has got deeper but having done this for a few days, my forehead is relaxing and lines are softening. It’s unbelievable really as my frown is so deep but this is definitely making a difference.
Wow, this is like magic! I was sceptical about face yoga, and I have these deep 11 lines from concentration I thought I was stuck with forever. I was offered botox once to remove them, but i didn’t want it. After 1 time doing this, the lines are barely visible! Thank you so much, I’m gonna do it every morning now!
Hello I love your face massages as I started them about a year ago. I am using an almond oil for face to massage however I don’t massage as often as I’d like because right near my mouth area including folds I experience it seems like more lines that are noticeable especially when wearing makeup….perhaps dryness or maybe pressing firmly??
As a massage therapist, and a mostly raw, plant-based diet person, I have learned that one of the best ways to keep our facial muscles young, is eating all of those raw fruits & vegetables! Both for the beautifying nutrients, but also something that most people never think of- CHEWING…
The muscles of our face are meant to work together as we chew our food, and chewing crunchy raw veg is THE BEST workout for the face!! Also chewing each bite many times before swallowing is also important, and helps our digestion too, which in turn ALSO helps our skin… So is a perfect system, and when people really take the time to eat this way, the benefits, inside & out, are simply MAGICAL-!!!
I use see through surgical tape at bedtime (from chemist) I smooth out the lines than put the tape on (cut to size) & I use the tape on sides of face so when I’m sleeping I’m not creasing up my face! But before I do this I put Aloe vera over my night oils & let it dry thoroughly before putting tape on..Aloe Vera is a skin tightner & it’s a barrier against the glue. Use a make up sponge every morning & night to iron out the creases.
