We, as experts in lymphatic system health, understand the importance of maintaining proper lymphatic function for overall health. The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in immune function, fighting off diseases and illnesses. If your lymphatic system is clogged or not working properly, it can cause dysfunction and make it challenging for your body to fight off any illnesses or viruses.
As certified lymphedema therapists and physical therapists, we have developed a three to five-minute morning routine to help stimulate the lymphatic system with lymphatic drainage. In this article, we will guide you through the step-by-step process of this routine to help maintain the health and function of your lymphatic system.
Before we dive into the routine, it is essential to note that the lymphatic system’s primary role is to filter lymph fluid, which carries waste and debris away from the body’s tissues. The lymphatic system is a complex network of vessels and nodes that work together to protect the body against infections and diseases.

Stimulating Lymph Nodes
The first step in our morning routine is to stimulate the lymph nodes in the body. Lymph nodes filter out bacteria, illness, and debris before fluid moves back to the heart. By stimulating the lymph nodes, we can help the lymphatic system function properly.
Start with the armpit, place your hand directly in that area and do eight to ten gentle circles. Repeat the same process on the other side. Next, stimulate the lymph nodes in the head and neck area. Place your hand above the collarbone, and do nice gentle circles at the base of the neck, about eight to ten times. Repeat the same process on the other side.
We also want to stimulate the lymph nodes below the ear. Use your fingers to split them into two, place them on either side of the ear, and do gentle circles about eight to ten times. Repeat the same process on the other side.
After stimulating the lymph nodes in all these areas, it’s time to move the fluid out.

Moving Fluid Out
All the lymph vessels guide from the middle of our face out to the side where these lymph nodes are below our ears. Then, they go down the side of the neck to these lymph nodes before they go back to the heart. By guiding the fluid through, we can help move the fluid out of the lymph nodes.
Starting at the base of the ear, use your hand to guide the fluid out, making gentle, downward strokes along the neck. Repeat the same process on the other side. Continue to guide the fluid down the sides of the neck until it reaches the lymph nodes, where it can then move back to the heart.
You may repeat these steps for three to five minutes every morning to help maintain proper lymphatic function. It is essential to use a clean hand and make sure to use as much surface area of your hand as possible, rather than just your fingertips. This way, you can get to all the lymphatic vessels and nodes.
Additional Tips
It’s also essential to note that there are other ways to help maintain proper lymphatic function. One of the best things you can do is to exercise regularly. Movement helps to stimulate the lymphatic system and keep the lymph fluid flowing. Exercise can also help you maintain a healthy weight, which can help reduce the strain on your lymphatic system.
Another way to maintain proper lymphatic function is to eat a healthy, balanced diet. A diet rich in whole foods, fruits, and vegetables can help reduce inflammation, which can be detrimental to the lymphatic system’s health. Avoiding processed foods, high sugar, and high-fat diets can also help to reduce inflammation.
In conclusion, proper lymphatic function is essential for overall health and immune function. The lymphatic system’s primary role is to filter lymph fluid, which carries waste and debris away from the body’s tissues, and stimulate lymph nodes. To help maintain proper lymphatic function, certified lymphedema therapists and physical therapists have developed a three to five-minute morning routine to stimulate the lymphatic system with lymphatic drainage. This routine involves stimulating lymph nodes in various areas of the body and guiding the fluid out of the lymph nodes. Other ways to maintain proper lymphatic function include regular exercise and a healthy, balanced diet. By implementing these practices, individuals can support their lymphatic system’s health and function, reduce inflammation, and promote overall wellness.
