Welcome to our comprehensive guide on gray hair care. We understand that gray hair can be a daunting transition for many people, and that is why we are here to offer some helpful tips and tricks to ensure your hair looks its absolute best. Whether you are in the early stages of transitioning or have been rocking the gray for some time, we have got you covered. In this article, we will address some of the most common gray hair mistakes and provide you with the solutions to ensure your hair looks and feels amazing.
Mistake #1: Warm Toned Hair Colors Contrasting With Gray Hair
The first mistake many people make is not taking into account the tonal differences between warm hair colors and cool-toned gray hair. Warm-toned browns and blondes, such as chestnut and honey, can create a significant contrast against gray hair. This contrast can draw the eye to the gray and make it more noticeable. To combat this, we recommend transitioning to a cool-toned color such as mushroom brown. Mixing ash-gray highlights with deep brown ashy low-lights is another excellent option for blending the gray out.

Mistake #2: Not Incorporating Purple Shampoo Into Your Hair Care Routine
Gray hair can develop a yellow tinge over time due to environmental factors such as sun exposure and the use of the wrong shampoo. Gray hair contains little to no pigment, making it more susceptible to picking up pigments from the environment. Purple shampoo is an excellent solution for combating this problem. Purple is the opposite color on the color wheel to yellow, making it a perfect neutralizer. We recommend using a purple shampoo once or twice a week to combat yellowing.
Mistake #3: Not Properly Hydrating Your Hair
Gray hair has a different texture than pigmented hair, making it more prone to dryness and wiriness. Using hydrating products can help offset this problem. We recommend using the Goldilocks Ultra Hydrating Signature Shampoo and Conditioner set to provide your hair with the nourishment it needs. These products are super-hydrating, light, and will not weigh your hair down.
Mistake #4: Skipping Out on Treatment Masks
Using a treatment mask once a week can help repair, restore and soften dry hair. The Goldilocks Ultra Hydrating Signature Hair Mask is a fantastic option for those looking to incorporate a treatment mask into their hair care routine. The mask is super-rich in vitamins, proteins, fatty acids, and antioxidants, making it an excellent solution for dry, brittle hair. Additionally, applying heat to your treatment mask will help it penetrate the hair more deeply, making it more effective.
Mistake #5: Overusing Heat Styling Tools
Gray hair can be quite fragile, making it more susceptible to heat damage. It is essential to use the proper prep products and go easy on the heat styling to prevent damage. The Goldilocks Leave-in Conditioner is an excellent product to use before heat styling. It strengthens the hair, fights frizz, and enhances shine. We also recommend using the Goldilocks Signature Serum to provide deep hydration, nourishment, and protection from breakage and UV damage. The Dyson Air Wrap is a unique hot tool that can significantly minimize heat damage due to its controlled heat and technology.

Mistake #6: Not Adding Any Supplements to Your Hair Care Routine
Supplementation can play a crucial role in hair health. As women age, over 50% notice that their hair is thinning. The Goldilocks supplement is an excellent solution for those experiencing hair loss, brittleness, or sallow skin. This supplement contains essential vitamins and nutrients to promote hair growth, strengthen nails, and enhance skin radiance.
In conclusion, transitioning to gray hair can be a challenge, but with the right hair care routine, it can look stunning. Avoiding common mistakes like warm-toned hair colors and overusing heat styling tools can help prevent damage and ensure your hair looks its absolute best. Incorporating products like hydrating shampoos and conditioners, purple shampoo, and treatment masks can help nourish and repair dry, brittle hair. Additionally, using supplements to support hair growth and skin health can make a significant difference in your overall hair care routine. By following these tips and tricks, you can rock your natural gray color with confidence and style.
Girl, I LOVE this one!!! Going grey was so scary but now that I’m on the other side I get stopped by total strangers who tell me how much they love my hair. I’m so glad I didn’t cave in during the awkward skunk stripe phase.
I’m having an easy transition. I highlighted honey blond for years. Then transitioned to ash/icy blonde over a 3 year period, but with these kind of highlights, comes damage. I decided to stop highlighting because of the damage. Best decision I’ve ever made! It’s coming in darker and salt and pepper, and it’s silver underneath. But I’ve been able to grow it halfway down my back! It can be tricky to wash two different heads of hair (I’m about half way. Natural color to just below the chin.) The bottom half is still the bleached part and requires TLC and purple conditioner. For styling, I blow dry on low heat, then sleep with a sock on my head for heatless curls aka as robe belt curls. Mother Nature really is the best colorist!
I started graying in high school so I started coloring it then and now at age 67 I still color it. At one point I changed my dark hair to a medium red blonde. Now I am seriously considering doing a blue gray to start going to gray with blending. Working up the courage to do just that. I have a 50 year high school reunion in 2023 and I want to look amazing
I had to learn the hydration part through trial and error. When my very thick hair went grey, it also turned very dry and wiry (but not at all curly). I’m sure the Goldilocks brand works great but I like the brand Amika, which has some very hydrating shampoos and conditioners, including purple ones. To bring down the enormous volume and frizz, however, I have to add the Davines Milk leave-in treatment (worth every penny) and Olaplex No. 6 Smoother is another heaven-sent if you blow dry a lot; they’re not kidding when they say it helps with frizz. I have a LOT of hair and the bottles still last me quite a while so you’re not spending loads of money every week.
